ABOUT

This is a 4-meeting virtual class using the Zoom platform.

Sundays, Sept 13, 20, 27, Oct 4, 1-2 pm Central time.

About this class: Poetry is not just a form of expression. It is a form of knowing - a way of reaching for truths that argument and analysis cannot quite hold. In this four-week class we slow down with a handful of carefully chosen poems and ask what they know that prose cannot say. Drawing on depth psychology and the lyric tradition, each session combines close reading with open discussion, using poetry as a lens for thinking about attention, knowledge, grief, beauty and what it means to be alive. No poetry background requires - only curiosity and a willingness to be surprised.

Skills Acquired: Interpretive Reading, Reflective Inquiry, Aesthetic Analysis, Perspective Taking, Imaginative Thinking

Please note: This class will be held live on Zoom during the dates and time listed above. If you can’t attend a session or if the time doesn’t work for you, a password-protected course page will host video recordings for registered participants to watch at their convenience.

Instructor bio: Cassie Fielding is a poet, researcher and educator whose work lives at the intersection of creative practice and psychoanalytic thought. She is completing a PhD in Psychoanalytic Studies at the University of Essex and is the founder of Vesica Press, an independent literary publisher for writing that refuses easy categories. She has presented her research internationally and teaches writers, artists and researchers who want to think more deeply and imaginatively about their practice and their lives.
