ABOUT
Join Tayo Basquiat, host of The Study Podcast, for a live conversation inspired by his episode with poet and philosopher H. L. Hix. These special Podcast Study Club sessions offer a chance to go beyond the episode, explore its questions more deeply, and connect with others through thoughtful conversation.
The episode centers on Hix’s novella The Death of H. L. Hix, a fictional reimagining of Tolstoy’s The Death of Ivan Ilyich. Their conversation explores the difficulty of accepting mortality, the desire to leave a legacy, the uncertainty of whether a life has been meaningful, and the humor and gratitude that can emerge when we face these questions honestly.
Please listen to the related podcast episode before the session. No additional reading or special preparation is required. Come curious. Leave connected.
In addition to being The Study Podcast host, Tayo Basquiat is a synthetic thinker, drawn to the connections between seemingly disparate ideas and the deeper questions that drive exploration. Once a teacher of philosophy and religion, he now works as a wilderness ranger and community science coordinator, and volunteers with the Mountain Rescue Association and the New Mexico Medical Reserve Corps. He lives off-grid in the high desert of New Mexico with a passel of creatures, grounded in a daily relationship with this beautiful and wondrous planet.
