ABOUT

This is a 4-meeting virtual class using the Zoom platform.

Mondays, April 6, 13, 20, 27, 6-7 pm Central time.

About this class: Join us for a thoughtful exploration of place, memory, and expression through Kimberly L. Becker’s latest poetry collection, Rivering. Whether you are a writer or simply someone who loves to read, this class will guide you in discovering and expressing your own sense of place through both reading and reflection. No writing experience is required.

When Cherokee poet Kimberly L. Becker moved to North Dakota, she was struck by the parallels between the government-built Garrison Dam’s flooding of tribal lands in the Midwest and the Tennessee Valley Authority’s flooding of Cherokee lands in the Southeast. Out of this recognition came Rivering, a collection that bridges geography and history, showing how landscapes carry stories of loss, resilience, and renewal.

Text: Rivering by Kimberly L. Becker (available through your local bookstore or Amazon). Participants may also wish to bring a notebook or journal.

Skills Acquired: Cultural Awareness, Written Expression, Oral Comprehension, Originality, Fluency of Ideas, Historical Awareness, Inductive Reasoning

Please note: This class will be held live on Zoom during the dates and time listed above. If you can’t attend a session or if the time doesn’t work for you, a password-protected course page will host video recordings for registered participants to watch at their convenience.
