ABOUT

This is a 4-meeting virtual class using the Zoom platform Presented by The North Dakota Council on the Arts.

Mondays, Oct 12, 19, 26, Nov 2, 6-7:30 pm Central time.

About this class: Flash fiction is typically stories of 1000 words or fewer. These are concentrated pieces that rely heavily on immediacy and readers because the stories simply don't have the time/space to lead readers or explain what readers should be taking away. Flash fiction is unique in many ways, but all of the features of a strong and engaging flash fiction piece are applicable and adaptable to most other genres of writing. Thus, flash fiction is highly concentrated and widely useful. This workshop series will guide participants through four weeks of experiences, skills, and perspectives toward successful flash fiction pieces, always paying attention to the experience of the writer in writing (verb) and the process of generating engaging writing (noun).

Skills Acquired: Creative Writing, Narrative Craft, Concise Expression, Audience Awareness, Revision Practice

Please note: This class will be held live on Zoom during the dates and time listed above. If you can’t attend a session or if the time doesn’t work for you, a password-protected course page will host video recordings for registered participants to watch at their convenience.

Instructor bio: Bill Macauley has been teaching college-level English since 1987 and mindful writing since 2019. He focuses on the one common denominator across all writing contexts and forms: the writer. He finds that process and product matter, and deep experience is where they are found.
